Early Life and Career
Rory Daniel McIlroy MBE was born on May 4, 1989, in Holywood, Northern Ireland. He began playing golf as a toddler and quickly showed exceptional talent. At the age of 16, he became the youngest player to win the West of Ireland Championship.
Professional Success
McIlroy turned professional in 2007 and quickly rose through the ranks. He won his first European Tour event in 2009 and his first PGA Tour event in 2010. In 2011, he became the number one ranked golfer in the world and won his first major championship at the US Open.
Major Championships
McIlroy has won four major championships: the 2011 US Open, the 2012 PGA Championship, the 2014 British Open, and the 2014 PGA Championship. He is one of the most successful golfers of his generation and is considered one of the greatest of all time.
